You can help people in Hornby who are struggling, to find a listening ear and the support and encouragement they need.

We’re here to listen.

The problem

Whatever challenges we face, we all need support. The professional support of an unbiased counsellor may help someone understand another perspective, build courage to face challenges, and find new ways to tackle the problems they face.

But for families who may be at crisis point or facing challenges like job losses or health problems, the cost of counselling can put it out of reach at the very times they need it most.

Reaching out for support takes courage, and willingness to work hard to create change in your life – and when people are ready to take that step, we believe counselling should be affordable and accessible for everyone.

So how can you help Hornby people to find support and a listening ear when they need it most?

How do we make a change?

How?

We have a Hornby-based team of nine counsellors are all fully qualified and professionally registered, offering individual counselling, couples counselling and employee support services for businesses.

But as a community trust our services are not for profit – any extra funds from our counselling services and business EAP services are all funneled back into our community, helping to support others in the community to access counselling services when they are most in need, and support other projects like providing school-based mental health services for children in our community.

Our goal is to remove barriers to accessing support, particularly financial barriers, to encourage people who need our services to reach out and seek help.

We use a sliding payment scale based on income, which means low and mid income families have the cost of their counselling sessions halved or significantly reduced.

Who?

We are a local community trust based in the heart of Hornby called Te Whare Awhero (Hope House) and our work focuses on the southwest of Christchurch.

As well as our not for profit counselling services, we provide our Longitudinal Whanau Support programme supporting struggling Hornby families and building Opportunity Hubs in schools, as well as community support services, Horizons Oscar before and after school and holiday programmes, and Mana Ake school-based mental health support services to children.

How can you help?

To continue our work in the Hornby community, we can’t rely only on Government grants or sponsorship, which can come and go. We also need the support of our community.

By becoming a Hornby Champion, your support of $50.00 per month will help us to continue our work and bring hope to local families.

We’ll provide you with regular updates on what your support has made possible, as well as opportunities to get involved directly.

Through counselling, we can help those struggling in our Hornby community to face their challenges and find a way forward – and through your support we can make counselling accessible to all.

What is a
Hornby Champion?

Support

A Hornby Champion believes in potential. It means that as a local business or individual, you have a passion for supporting local children, youth, and their families to be all that they can be. You are a Champion of Hope.

If you are wanting to be philanthropic (really generous!) to those in need, then we can help you as you help us.

We love partnerships with local people and businesses who want to help make a difference in our community. If this is one of your values, we can support you to put this into
action.

Hope

Our goal is to create hope for those in need – it’s our underlying mission and drive at Hornby Champion. We strive to see the youth and whanau of our local community given all the opportunity they need in life to succeed. Our focus has always been on those in need, and we would love you to help us make true impact happen in our community.

Now more than ever, we need to bring hope to those that are struggling, or to those that simply need our support.

Become a champion to your community – partner with us!
